Queens Plate 2016 - Rethink the races !

Hello, i hope you all had a lovely weekend! Yesterday i attended the 157th Annual Queens Plate, which is canadas oldest thoroughbred horse race.  Canada recently turned 149 years old (this past friday, happy birthday canada woo! ) meaning that this event has been going on for longer than canada has even been its own independent country. (crazy huh!?)  I love anything that has to do with tradition and history, i constantly wish i was born in a different time era, even 100 years earlier. And i know a lot of people say that but i've gotten to the point of crying about it because i feel so out of place. (i'm normal i swear!) i'm very old fashioned and a huge romantic. The Queens plate also has the long standing tradition of it elegant attire so of course it was right up my alley! i decided to keep my outfit simple and elegant, without many prints or bright colours. i took a page out of Kate Middletons style book and kept it a bit more minimal. i was inspired by her numerous looks that include fascinators or hats and i noticed a pattern.... 90% of the time her fascinator is the same colour as her outfit as opposed to an accent colour. And since my favourite colour to wear is red....here we are! The dress i am wearing is from jcrew and it hits around the knees, since the event is outside i didn't want to worry about the wind and having to hold down my skirt, i also opted for a sleeveless dress because it was going to be very warm outside. I paired it with a red fascinator and a few accessories, such as a big pearl necklace and a gold crest like brooch, you guys know how much i love my brooches! Unfortunately at the queens plate cameras with removable lenses are not permitted so i shot the whole day exclusively on my IPhone 6s. This allowed me to just carry around my small gold clutch which acted as my pop of colour.

I was also invited to attend the rethink the races VIP marquee tent which was so much fun ! They had stations set up for manicures, a bunch of yummy treats like cookies, candy, sandwiches, The very talented Stephanie McKay was there doing fashion illustrations of everyone that attended (the drawings were amazing!!) It's always so interesting to see what everyone is going to wear and i must admit, i saw such a range of beautiful fascinators and hats as well as incredible dresses. Everyone looked amazing as well as the men, there were some very elegant suits, overall it was a fashion success!  But the queens plate is not just about the fashion there was also music, food and of course the horse races ! Watching horse races is not something i normally do, although i wish i knew more about it because i really enjoyed it! I cant wait to attend next year :)
