I am always on the hunt for products that will give my hair volume, although it might not look like it, i actually have ALOT of hair, and since its heavy it tends to get weighed down so, i lack from volume at the roots. Throughout my life i have experimented with thinning my hair at the bottom to reduce weight but the only difference i saw was that my hair looking thinner and limp. i have stopped doing that and now and i just get a few long layers at the end of my hair and just letting it be. I have also found that keeping it a medium length helps because its not as heavy so it looks fuller overall (This was heartbreaking as someone who has always loved long hair.) i have just accepted that that is just the way my hair is and i now look for products to compliment it instead of fighting against it. i recently used some new products that i actually think gave my hair a lot of body and movement without weighing it down!
I start off by using the Kérastase Volumifique shampoo and conditioner. And let me just start of by saying that these smell amazing!! it has a slight fruity scent in the grapes and kiwi area (very fitting to the packaging) its an interesting scent because its so unique, not a lot of hair care products smell like this and i LOVE that. its a very fresh clean scent. I think my favourite part is the conditioner, its a clear conditioner which is what you want to look for when trying to achieve volume (its a bit hard to find and i'm not sure why) it being clear means its more lightweight and less heavy than your standard creamy conditioner, i definitely saw the difference in my hair after using it. As my hair started to dry i noticed my hair had a lot more body, i couldn't believe it when i looked in the mirror.
After my shower i towel dry my hair a little bit... i hate it when the my shirt gets wet from my hair haha. If i have time i will let it air dry about 60% (you can use a blow dryer if you are in a rush) Then i used the Kérastase volume expansion spray, this has the same scent as the shampoo and conditioner. I think that it's really important because then you won't have a mixture of scents in your hair. i apply this directly near the roots and a bit throughout my hair. You don't want to go too crazy with it because excess product is never good. i use about 2 sprays on my roots, on each side and a few around my hair ( about 2-3). Then using my hands i will run my fingers through my hair and shake it out a little bit to distribute the product. i think that step makes a world of a difference.
This is where you will see the most drastic change, and that is with the use of mousse! i have always been told to use mousse in my hair to achieve volume but i'm always scared that my hair will feel sticky and not natural. After using the Kérastase impulse amplifying mousse i can honestly say it left my hair feeling so soft and with tons of movement, i could run my fingers through my hair and it felt as if i had no product in it. I applied a generous amount onto my roots (about an orange sized amount) I did this by flipping my hair from one side to another and then massaging it in using my fingers. Again this is the same scent as all the other products, trust me your hair will end up smelling amazing.
Immediately after applying the mousse i used a hairdryer. i find that hairdryers and mousse go hand in hand when trying to achieve more volume. i flip my hair from side to side and direct the heat in the opposite direction that my hair falls. Which till give you a light lift at the roots. You can also achieve this by flipping you hair upside down and drying that way.
For some extra movement and bounce i slightly curled the ends of my hair, i was channeling my inner Kate Middleton...she has perfect hair! i did this by using a 1inch curling iron, this one is just from conair and is about $24! I like using a curling iron as opposed to a curling wand because the clamp holds the hair in place and i don't risk burning the ends of my fingers... which i have done in the past haha. This step ins completely optional! i just like the look of slightly curled hair.
And just like that you will have volumized hair filled with body and movement. You can channel your inner hair idol... mine being Kate Middleton and Olivia Palermo. i think the key here is the Volumifique collection by Kérastase. They are designed to amplify and reinforce fine hair and give it volume but also lightness. They have agents that help control frizz and add shine without weighing your hair down, i think the products do just that! The shampoo and conditioner leave my hair feeling clean without being stripped down which i think is really important for the long term health of your hair. As for the Spray and mousse, they really made a difference when it came to styling my hair, it gave it extra volume and staying power which is in my eyes, is a dream come true.
