Under The Lights At The Fair

The CNE is here !  For all of you who aren't from Toronto, its Canadas National Exhibition. It happens every year and it marks the end of the summer. Starting in 1879 its been a long standing tradition!  They even have a whole page where you can look at old photos and advertisements. If you are curious you can check out here. I love going in the evening and watching the sunset from the Sky Ride (it crossed over the carnival part of the exhibit). I also love walking around the lights it looks so beautiful! The CNE is also known for its wacky food combinations (the food in general). It's always fun to try unusual food combinations and traditional carnival foods like freshly made cotton candy. I had Cinnamon Sugar Mini Donuts, foot long french Fries and Pink Cotton Candy.

As for my outfit I am wearing a pink late 1930s dress that I got from Statement House at the Toronto Vintage Clothing Show. I paired it with a two string pearl necklace and a 1930s dog brooch from Vintage Soul Geek. The puffed sleeves on the dress made it a perfect choice to wear to the CNE and the colour matched the cotton candy :)

The last day of the CNE is labour day so once its gone the summer will be over and but for now I'll be enjoying the last week of summer

Capturing the Last Days Of Summer

It's already mid August! It's crazy how fast time flies in the summer. I wanted to share this casual summer outfit featuring the best purchase I made this summer. These cream late 1930s/early 1940s shorts!  I had them in my cart for a while on Ebay, but they were a bit pricey (for plain shorts). I finally decided to splurge and get them and I'm so glad I did!  They pair with so many things and I've worn them a few times since I got them. In this outfit I paired it with a 1930s blouse from Ian Drummond Vintage. I actually got this blouse last year but I didn't have the right bottoms to pair it with, so I haven't worn it.  For shoes I am wearing these vintage 1960s shoes that I got at the Toronto Vintage Clothing Show. I think they work well for a 1930s/40s outfit ! And of course I am wearing my cream sunglasses from Etsy that I told you I'd be wearing non stop this summer!  Let me know what you think of this outfit in the comments !

1920s Garden Party

The Gatsby Garden Party is back at Spadina house !! Ok... its now called a 1920s Party but STILL. The last garden party they had was in 2019 and due to the pandemic they haven't had it since.  They garden party is hosted at the Spadina house (right beside Casa Loma). Its a really fun event because everyone dresses up in 1920s clothes and there is live music (1920s tunes of course). I wore a 1920s reproduction dress that I got from Ian Drummond vintage, as well as a reproduction cloche hat. And even though the pieces aren't authentic from the period I think they blend in perfectly. I was going to wear a true 1920s pink dress I own but I didn't have a hat that paired well with it, which isn't an issue for every day wear.... but for the the 1920s party I wanted a full outfit!

The inside of the house

They also hold small tours of the house during the party, In 2019 they actually had time slots and you walked through the whole house with a guide. This time around they opened the first floor and you could just walk through. As convenient as that is..... I feel like you didn't get to see much of the house or learn about it. I much prefer to sign up for a slot and see the whole house (I'll even pay a little bit extra like it was in the past). However I know thats an option all year round. The house, art and decor reflects styles from the 1860s to the 1930s. Although most of the house is in 1920s-1930s style. The last member of the family to live in the house was Anne Kathleen Thomson who lived there from 1942-1982 and in 1984 it opened up as a museum. It really is one of my favourite buildings in the city so its fun to see it surrounded by people dressed like its the 1920s. Almost like a glimpse into the past.
