Fall On The Horizon

[AD- Paid Partnership] With the cool summer we've had I'm kinda sad that summer is coming to an end. I feel like I still need a few hot days in the sunshine before the weather changes,  I can count on one hand how many nice summer days we had this summer. On the other hand, if the days are going to be cool they might as well be cold enough for me to be able to wear my fall clothes so I guess I'm ready for the change. The transition between seasons is always tricky so I try to implement some fall colours in summer styles, then I add one fall piece in a summer colour. Does that make sense? This outfit is the PERFECT example of how I like to transition my wardrobe from summer to fall. Starting with the top, I am wearing a muted light blue short sleeves blouse with tiny polka dots. The fabric and style of the shirt is summery but the colour is more muted and its a colour I would wear in the winter. For my skirt I am wearing this wool skirt in a cream colour. The material is more appropriate for the fall/winter but the colour blends in perfectly in the summer.

However my favourite part of this outfit is the shoes ! I am wearing the Jenny oxfords from the new American Duchess collection. The are out for pre-order now ! I am in LOVE with these shoes because they are perfect for the end of the summer and all through the fall. I know I'll be wearing them non stop. Its inspired by shoes worn in the 1940s through the 1960s. This pair is in the Chestnut Brown shade but it also comes in different shades like; Black, Cherry Red, Goldenrod Yellow, and Soft white. I personally have my eye on the soft white ! They would be perfect for summer!

As for accessories I grabbed these cream knit gloves. I love wearing gloves I think they are very underrated! The only problem I have with them is that we live in a touch screen world so I constantly have to take them on an off if I want to take a photo on my phone among other things. I wish my phone was a bit more mechanical? and had an actual button to take photos or text. But thats just me being whiny lol. I hope you guys liked this look !  How do you usually transition your outfits from summer to fall?

164th Kings Plate

On Sunday I attended the Kings Plate. The first Kings Plate in 70 years! I've been going to the Queens Plate for years, for as long as I can remember my family has been in attendance. However this is the first KINGS plate! The name changes based on the gender of who is sitting on the throne. Queen Elizabeth II was Queen for 70 years so its been The QUEENS plate since her father, King George VI was on the throne. Now its King Charles so the name has changed.

The Kings Plate is a horse race but its also an event where everyone gets dressed up in their best dresses and suits along with a an elegant hat/fascinator.  There are fun tents, live music, food trucks an even an outfit contest ! I look forward to it every summer. However... this year was different. Since the grounds are under construction they couldn't set anything up outside so it was basically just the races. There were no things to do in between which was a bit disappointing. The fun part of the event is walking around outside showing off your outfit, getting a drink and sitting under the many umbrella tables they set up around the grass. It doesn't look like it from the photos but it was a also a bit crowded since everyone was inside the building vs spread out all over the grounds. They usually have a big pink flower wall at the entrance with the event logo but this year that was replaced with a small white wall promoting a car brand.... It was uninspired. We waited in line for 30 minutes and the line didn't move, we got bored and walked away. Usually its very fast and well organized so I'm not sure what happened. I don't want to sound negative, It was still a fun day, I got to dress up and I had some popcorn! But I hope they are able to restore the event to its former glory for next year.

As for my outfit, I wore this pink 1950s dress with a 1950s hat. I've had them in my closet for a while but I've never worn them together. Actually I've never worn this dress. I felt like the combination was a bit too over the top for a random dinner so the Kings Plate was the perfect occasion to wear them!

I filmed a little tiny vlog for my youtube channel which you can find below !

Lazy Summer Day

The summer is flying by!  I can't believe its already mid August. I feel like I've been running around all summer and I don't know where my time went. so I plan on slowing down and enjoying all summer has to offer. I have a few things planned for the rest of August so it feels like the start of summer vacation. I  wanted to share this casual vintage look, this is the type of thing I wear every day when I'm at home, running errands, or when I'm sitting in the backyard. I am wearing these navy high waisted shorts, I thrifted them but they have a 1940s look to them!  I paired that with a white short sleeved blouse that ties in a bow at the front, one of the most flattering tops I own. For shoes.... omg guys I am wearing these beige oxford shows that I LOVE but the plastic thing at the end of the heel broke!! You can see it in the photos if you look close enough. I am heartbroken !!  I have to take them to the shoe cobbler this week, and hopefully they can fix them. This was the perfect outfit to wear laying out on the grass.  I also had so much fun flipping through this vintage magazine that I got from Aberfoyle a couple of weeks ago, its from 1938 and it has such a beautiful cover ! How are you spending the rest of the summer ????

Dark Flower

Can you think of a more perfect outfit for lunch in the city??? I went to Maison Selby for lunch this past Sunday and this is the outfit I wore. A vintage 1940s peplum dress... which honestly is the most flattering silhouette for my body shape. It has these little "diamond" bits sewn in which give it a beautiful and elevated feel. I added this purple flower brooch that I made from some flowers I thrifted a few weeks ago. I actually wore this brooch twice this past weekend ! I wore it on Saturday night to go out for dinner, which happens to be my previous blog post (link here). For my handbag I used this vintage popcorn bag that I got at a vintage store. and for my hat I opted for this black hat with a long feather at the top that I got from the Toronto Vintage Clothing show!. I feel like there is a big difference in the way I dress when I'm at home, further away from the city, and the outfits I wear when I'm in the city. I try to stay away from dark colours in the summer but when I go downtown I don't light colours. I'm not sure what it is but it just feels right? Maybe I should do a whole video talking about this? what do you guys think ? I might need to sort out my thoughts before I film it tho haha.
