Eating At The Oldest Restaurant In The World

Sobrino de botin
I just got home from Madrid and I went to the oldest restaurant in the world according to the Guinness book of world records. It was founded in 1725 (Almost 300 years old!) and has remained with the same name and even has preserved the original wooden oven. It's a four story building and is reminiscent of an old inn with the narrow staircases and cozy interior. It has even been mentioned in one of Hemingway's novels. The building itself is older than the restaurant as there are record of its existence in 1590, but it didn't become a restaurant until 1725. During the turn of the 20th century the restaurant ended up in the hands of the Gonzalez family who still owns and runs the restaurant today. At the time only the first floor was used as a restaurant, the cellar was for storage and the second and third floors were the family dwellings.  When the family took over they only had 7 employees including the couple and their three children. During the Spanish war the restaurant served many members of the military in their dining room. After the war and the terrible times that followed, the the control of the restaurant was passed on to the two sons, who turned it into what it is today. They have done their best to preserve the atmosphere and traditional tavern style. It is in an incredible location near the plaza mayor.

It was one of the best meals I've had! I ordered the pollo campero en pepitoria and it was DELICIOUS.  It was chicken with an egg and nuts sauce served with rice. It was slightly chilly outside the day I went and it really warmed me up form the inside out. The building itself is stunning and you can really see the tradition and history behind the restaurant. It was also an experience to be able to go to the oldest restaurant in the world and I highly recommend you to go if you are ever in Madrid.
If you want to learn more, see the menu and look at the virtual tour of the building here is a link to their website

Plaid Skirt at Christmas

Christmas is the perfect time to wear red plaid skirts! This one is one is one of my favourites, and was actually my very first Etsy purchase a little over a year ago.....  which has lead to many..MANY more. What I love about vintage skirts is that they come in numerous waist sizes compared to most fast fashion stores that have S-M-L sizing. This allows for a much more accurate fit which is more flattering on the figure. My favourite way to wear vintage skirts like this is wit a Cardigan with a collared blouse underneath, in this case I chose red. If you want to see more of this look check out my christmas lookbook below!

Flared Plaid Pants

I'm trying my hardest to not start posting holiday looks so I figured in the next few days I would share some plaid outfits!  Plaid is the perfect print for the fall, winter AND Christmas ! These plaid pants are hands down my favourite pair of pants!  They are so flattering because of their 1970's authentic silhouette (They are vintage.) I paired the pants with a thick forest green turtleneck from JCrew and some camel coloured booties. But what really gives this outfit a retro look is the white headband and white earrings ! That combination has been one of my go-tos this fall !  And I know it will carry on over the next few months! Let me know what you think in the comments below! As well if you want to see this outfit in video its part of my plaid lookbook ! linked down below!

Leopard Print Hat

My hat obsession keeps growing !  I used to collect berets and summer "straw" hats, but I've slowly started to collect vintage hats! This leopard print one is my current favourite! I picked it up at the Toronto Vintage clothing show and I've never found a hat that fits me so perfectly! I love hats I think they can really transform an outfit. For example this outfit Is fairly simple I'm wearing a black A line skirt from Forever 21, a little double breasted coat from H&M, and by adding the hat it makes the outfit look so Vintage and so 60's. To add some more colour I added some accessories like this black and gold Brooch (Same colours as the leopard print) and some matching leopard print shoes! I love matching my shoes to my hat I think its so playful and I think it really helps tie the outfit together. Let me know what you think of this look in the comments below !
