September 2022 - Film and TV

Another month goes by, I am so sorry that this post is so late!  I kept holding off on posting it because I've been meaning to watch Blonde so that I could include it.  Unfortunately September was my busiest month so I only have 3 movies... and I haven't had a chance to watch Blonde yet. I have her really bad (upsetting) reviews tho... so part of me doesn't want to watch it now. I'll probably still end up watching it tho! But either way I thought I would share these movies anyway because its already October 4th.

9/10. I've been meaning to watch this movie for a while! The movie is about an officer who meets a ballerina on his time off during WWII. They fall in love and he is suddenly called into active duty. Due to this romance she is dismissed from her ballet school and struggles to make ends meet. I don't want to spoil it too much so thats all I'll say for now!  it was Vivien Leigh's first movie following Gone with the Wind. And she is phenomenal ! I loved her performance in this movie.

Also this costume is EVERYTHING, I always see this photo on pinterest and instagram and I didn't know what it was from and now I know lol. If you read my blog post about the inspiration behind my haircut (Link here). You would know this movie was my MAIN inspiration. I fell in love with her haircut and I've never been happier with my own hair.

The movie is really enjoyable and I really like the personalities on screen. However it does take a sad turn in the second half, and it's quite tragic. But it is filled with romance!  I would argue the scene where they are dancing at the restaurant/bar as the lights get turned off is one of the most romantic scenes on screen. You really feel the chemistry and it gave me butterflies when watching it!  I highly recommend it if you've never seen it, I'm currently on the hunt for a copy on DVD!

6/10. Warner Bros invited me to an advance screening a few days before the movie came out! I was so excited to watch it since I saw the trailer. I love the time period  and I usually enjoy psychological thrillers. I don't really listen to Harry Styles (I mainly listen to music from 30s-60s) but of course he was a big draw for the movie, and I think he did a decent job in Dunkirk so I was intrigued to see how he does in another film.

Florence Pugh is an amazing actress so I knew she would be good in this role. And I have to admit.... she carried the entire movie on her back lol....literally she was  basically in every scene. Harry styles did ok for a singer, his role wasn't that challenging and I do think that if he was acting along side a less talented actress his performance would've been disappointing.  She made him better... not sure if that makes sense lol.

Olivia Wilde brought nothing to the table... sorry but anyone could've played that role and done it better. I'm not trying to feed into the drama behind the scenes but the drama surrounding her was more interesting than her performance in this movie. But anyway.... overall the movie was OK. Nothing amazing that we haven't seen before. They did a good job at building mystery... but they kinda dragged it out to the point where it got annoying and the pay off wasn't that satisfying. I was expecting a bit more from the ending and it felt a bit rushed. Sorry I know that sounds vague but I'm trying not to spoil it for those that haven't seen it yet. I don't think its a must see in Theaters, I would go on a Tuesday (cheap day!) or wait for it to come out on a streaming service. However I will say the wardrobe, makeup and set design was perfection!  Whoever was in charge of that did an amazing job! and I LOVED the Dita Von Teese cameo!  she's a Queen !

100000/10. Ah I love this movie!  I watch it every first day of fall! It's one of my favourite movies and if you haven't seen it PLEASE watch it. Starting off with the obvious... the fashion is incredible, preppy collegate early 1970s perfection. If you love fashion this movie is a must watch. Ali Macgraw and Ryan O'neal have amazing chemistry and their banter is witty and really funny at times. I also really love the way its filmed, the colours and the types of shots they use!  I always find inspiration when I watch it and want to incorporate that style into my own filming.

As much as I love this movie it has a sad ending... which isn't a spoiler because they mention the ending in the opening monologue .... and the movie is 50 years old so we are a little late for spoiler alerts lol. The ending breaks my heart every time. I know there is a second movie but I can't bring myself to watch it. If you've seen it let me know what you think?

But either way I think they are adorable together and I never get tired of watching it. It makes me want to walk around Harvard University (Where is where the movie takes place and where it was filmed). I have a red and white scarf exactly like the one Jenny wears in the movie because I loved it so much, everything she wears is so cute. I've been on the hunt for a red dress like the one she wears for years (see photo below). I'll never get tired of watching this movie I have two DVD copies just in case one gets ruined. It truly is a must watch!

That pretty much wraps up the movies for this month!  Again I haven't watched any new TV shows I've been so busy with the Toronto Vintage Clothing Show (Link to that video!!) that I haven't had a chance to commit to a TV show. Now that the weather gets colder and I spend more time at home in the evenings there will be more TV shows. I'm also going to get started on my horror movies! I love horror movies so I might do a post on my favourite ones! xoxo
