Vintage Soul Geek Garage Sale - HAUL!

I mentioned in my previous post that I wanted to share a bit more of my every day life with you! It's nice to connect with you guys, I think it's something that has been lost over the years with the rise of influencers. If you think back to how things were when "bloggers and youtubers" first started VS  how things are today, it's like night and day. I won't dive into that topic in this post because it could be its own stand alone blog post (really.. I could talk about that for hours lol) But I decided to bring a bit of that back so here you will get bonus content that you wont see on my youtube channel, more outfits photos and just more of my every day life!

Yesterday I went to Vintage Soul Geek, a vintage clothing store in Hamilton. It's a couple of towns over from where I live, but its a short drive and well worth it. it's one of my favourite vintage clothing stores! They always have the most amazing pieces from numerous decades and the owners are incredibly nice! (hi! if you're reading this :) )  They were hosting their annual garage sale, which they haven't been able to host it in the past couple of years because of the pandemic, so I knew I HAD to go! They kept posting sneak peaks on their instagram story and I was giddy with excitement. It stared at 9am so I set up my alarm and went to bed. Out of excitement I got no sleep (Like a kid the night before a school field trip lol). Past experience taught me to go early because last time there was a line to get in. It was a cold rainy day but likely I got a parking spot in front of the door so I waited for someone to approach the store before lining up.

Then it was 9 and the sale started! The store filled up so quickly But I quickly looked though all of the racks of clothing to see if something caught my eye... and let me just say A LOT caught my eye! There was so much to look at! 1950s, 60s and even 20s!  all at amazing prices! most things were between $5-$20, the most expensive thing I saw was $30 and jewellery was even cheaper. My hands were full as I was navigating the crowds to look at the next section. I'll admit it was a bit hard to look at the items because there was no spot to stand without being in someones way. Luckily my dad came with me and he held the items while I double checked them one by one, I don't think I could've done it without him. I was only able to get 3 photos because it was too crowded and truthfully I was very focused lol. I was in there for about 35 minutes and came out with 21 pieces.

THE HAUL
These are all of the items I was able to find! I'll tell you how much I paid for everything at the end, You wont believe it!

First up is this little day dress, Its cream with little flowers and the most beautiful lace details on the shoulders/neck. This will be perfect for wearing around the house or going on walks in the summer, it came with a little matching belt to cinch in the waist, in perfect condition!. The price label didn't have decade but with the right hair style and accessories I think it could look like a casual 50's/early 60's look!

Then I got this duo toned dress in a red and cream. This dress has a beautiful structure, the skirt is full and has pleats. Again in perfect condition.  I love all of the detail that is on the top part and it fits me like a glove. it doesn't look like it from the photos but they fabric has a lot of structure to it. I know I'll get tons of wear out of it this summer. I believe it's a late 1950s dress, even tho the label doesn't specify.

I also got this gorgeous 1940s lace "wedding dress"?  at least I am assuming its a wedding dress. It came with a little lace cropped jacket with tiny lace covered buttons going along the front. The jacket also has  the cutest little peter pan collar. It does have shoulder pads and we all know how I feel about shoulder pads.... So I might end up removing them. The lace is absolutely gorgeous and the structure of the dress is beautiful. Its in amazing condition except for some colouring near the underarms (Very common with vintage clothes) but I might (Hopefully) be able top lift that colour out, I'll probably do that this summer when its nice out so I can hang the dress outside to dry. I Don't think I would wear the two pieces together because I will look like i'm getting married, but I can see myself wearing the pieces separately in the summer.

Ok is this not THE most beautiful green shade!?  I got this little 1950s/60s cropped jacket that will pair perfectly with skirts or dresses. I'm so excited for the weather to get warmer so I can wear it! This will be perfect for late nights in the summer and I just adore the collar and little bow at the waist. Its in amazing condition it just needs to be ironed lol.

This dress is a vintage dream!  The label didn't say what decade its from but I'm assuming early 60s? Don't quote me on that, I have to do more research. The polka dots! the large velvet ribbon! the neckline! its perfection!.... except the colour of the ribbon has transferred onto the dress (womp womp womp). Thats the only defect, other than that its in perfect condition. It's a shame because the nude colour is so stunning with the red polka dots. It was very inexpensive so I decided to get it anyway and I am going to give dying it a try. I'm thinking of turning it into a pink ish colour (The same colour that has transferred onto the dress) I will probably do that once the weather gets warmer so I can do it outside, so if anyone has any tips let me know! or if you know a way that I can pull some of that red colour off the nude fabric that would be great too, because I do prefer the original colours.

Ok this is THE dress!  And to think I almost left it behind, I asked for my total and depending on how much it came to I would buy it... I am so glad I decided to get it (looking back I don't know what I was thinking, it should've been the first item in the bag) this is the most amazing and now the oldest piece in my collection. I would honestly hang this dress up as decoration because its so beautiful. Its a late 1910s-early 1920s dress. Can we just take a moment to think about how this dress is 100 years old. I don't even know what to say its breathtaking... I would honestly get married in this dress... wait I do have my 1920s veil I'm planning to wear when I get married.... Ok I'm thinking too far ahead.... Either way this dress is stunning! It's a sand/oatmeal colour and it has a velvet belt that goes along the front, with a delicate flower in the middle.  It has little snaps on the side to make putting it on /taking it off  easier. The skirt portion has a slight fluff to it that I love. Its in amazing almost perfect condition. Of course it not a dress I would wear on a daily basis, I would be too worried about ruining it, but I might wear it to a big event. The Gatsby Garden party perhaps?

Speaking of getting too ahead of myself... I got the cutest little baby things lol. I'm not going to say much about these because I don't have kids nor am I close to getting married LOL. I got a beautiful baby bonnet in a beige colour with a white ribbon. And I got a little gown and cape set that comes with a matching bonnet, all in perfect condition! There was a few other ones and I regret not getting them because they were an amazing price... but seeing as I don't plan on having kids any time soon I guess this is enough lol.

Ok now for some accessories! Or I guess I should say Handbags. It was a bit hard to photograph the colour properly but the larger bag is a grey/olive green shade with hardware in a gold tone. If you look close enough it has a bit of an art deco detail on the front of the handbag. It didn't have a date but based on the inside and the shape I'm guessing 1950s. The second little bag is absolutely darling! It's a small black bag with a gold chain with small floral embroidered details. I know I'm going to get tons of wear out of this bag! I couldn't tell you what time period its from, it could be more modern but I think with the right outfit and hair it will blend in seamlessly with my more 1940s outfits. Both in amazing condition!

Next up are these two cord handbags! I own one cord handbag in a brown colour but these two are black, I know the details are hard to see because of the colour but they are marvellous. You are probably wondering why I got two "similar" black bags...I've been getting more into 1940s fashion and I struggled with what handbags to pair with them, most of mine are from the 1950s+. This gives me a couple of options and I can already see myself wearing them all the time, A girl has to have options! And lucky for me they are both in amazing condition!

Finally we are at the end, These are the final accessories! I got this navy blue hat that has cream detail on the trim. They are small pieces of fabric that almost mimic flower petals? really beautiful. If you've been following me on Instagram you would've heard me talk about how much I love gloves, especially for the summer (You'll be seeing a lot of that this season) I've been wanting a pair of  gloves like these for a long time now but can never find any at a reasonable price or in good condition. However both of these gloves are perfect ! No rips or anything which is shocking considering these types of gloves are quite delicate.

And that wraps up this little haul (I guess I shouldn't call it little) ... but now for the grand total.. you guys are not going to believe it. I came to $135 with tax for everything! Thats like the price of one dress on Etsy without shipping. I'm so happy I was able to attend the sale and get all of these amazing pieces yesterday. If you weren't able to attend the sale you can always check out Vintage Soul Geek if you are looking for some vintage pieces to add to your wardrobe. They always have amazing pieces!

  2. Hi Carolina! Love your blog and all your finds! Whenever I have an issue with red dye transfer on my clothing, I soak it in water, detergent (mine is free of dyes), and distilled white vinegar, and also spot clean the area with the dye transfer with detergent and vinegar. It usually does the trick for me, though you might want to test it on a small area of the fabric first, just in case. (I have never tried it on silk, so if the dress is silk, maybe be extra careful). Have a great day!
